5. Creating a Dashboard

LiteMONITOR: Creating a Dashboard

To create a dashboard we have 2 elements to configure:

  • - Layout: The structure the dashboard will have. It is composed of cells that store different views. It is recommended not to try to put lots of views, in order not to loose the easy control which is the main goal of this tool.
  • - Views: These are the views that are going to be displayed when loading the dashboard. These views can be imported from ones we have already created in the system folder, or new.

Now we will see in detail how to define a layout and how to import or create new views within a dashboard.

Layout Definition

To define the layout, we must first consider the structure we want our dashboard to have.

We can add the rows or columns we desire and customize its size. All these operations are easily done with the right mouse button.

When designing the layout, we must keep in mind that once we import or create a view, this may take one or more of the dashlets designed. For example: We could have at the top part a table holding a row and three columns, and in the bottom part three graphs, each of them occupying one of the dashlets.

We we see it below.

Selection of Views to Add.

Once we have designed the layout, we must decide which views we want to add. We can either import existing views, which can be edited in the dashboard, or create new ones.

To do this, wemust click on any space with the right mouse button and select Create / Import View.

Once imported or created, the view appears at the sidebar. Clicking on it, an internal liteExplorer will open, where we will be able to edit the view as we want it to look like in the dashboard.

From the layout, we can merge cells and columns, therefore a view can be at 1,2 or 3 columns while others will occupy only 1 of the spaces.

We can see it in the next image:

Once we have a view in its place new editing options will appear. We can either move the view if we are not happy with its current location or expand the view. For example, this will be very useful for tables that occupy more than one column.

When we have have our structure ready with all the views in the position we want , we can save it in the folder we want. We can perform a preview of the dashboard to see if it has the appearance we want it to have.
